I am fond of quoting Aristotle when it comes to satire, so it pleased me to see this comment on my article today from “Matthew-Jerusalem”:
… some commenters are missing the simple fact that this satire illustrates that it would be idiotic for an actual teacher to manage a classroom this way, and yet this is precisely how the US government is being managed.
The taking away of grades from smarter and harder working children to supplement the poor grades of lazy students does not succeed in making the lazy students smarter but rather encourages the hard working students to flee the classroom in search of a place where they are allowed to receive the actual benefits of their labors.
Providing a “grade stimulus” to give students “free” grades in the hopes that next month they will be encouraged to work harder and make up the difference only serves to make the students lazier.
Giving “grade credits” to boost the grades of unproductive students would never succeed in encouraging them to actually work.
We are supposed to ruefully shake our heads and chuckle at the mere thought of a teacher being so foolish as to attempt to educate students in this manner and then be outraged that while only an idiot would do so the federal government is even now running the United States in just such a manner.
We have thirty-one “czars,” carbon credits, stimulus packages, and welfare and entitlement packages galore. The government is busy taxing the wealthy, industrious, and hardworking Americans in order to give handouts to the lazy and in doing so is driving the brightest among us to locate their businesses and wealth in other countries.
The end result, as in the satirical classroom, will be that all that remains are the laziest, most corrupt, and most ignorant that society has to offer. The bill will eventually come due, and there will be no more smart, hardworking kids to steal grades from. …
