The Miami Herald and all of parent company MNI make this list of media properties which could go poof in 2009.

In fact, the dire situation McClatchy faces with the Herald really does drive home for me the idea that the best hope for its Carolinas operations is to be spun off, either as a standalone operation or in conjunction with other regional properties. Otherwise MNI’s massive debt and Florida and California exposure is just going to burn up any money the Southeast might produce. But newspapers are far from alone in being in trouble.

Playboy, Gourmet, Smart Money, and Entertainment Weekly are also mentioned as being without ads or eyeballs and likely only to survive as Web-based entities — at best. I certainly knew EW had to be on thin ice as over the holiday season someone was trying to give me a free subscription about every 7 minutes.
