They keep producing more “Big Ideas“! Per WRAL:

Raleigh on Tuesday unveiled some “Big Ideas” for its future. … The “Big Ideas” book includes plans to redevelop Capital Boulevard. The project would have a man-made river walk just north of downtown, similar to San Antonio’s River Walk, also known as Paseo del Río.

Of course it is of pressing importance for Raleigh city government to build a friggin’ river walk just like San Antonio. It probably sounds a lot cooler than a crime-ridden, property-taking “greenway.”

Another idea was transportation, from high-speed rails to commuter trains.

Again with the choo-choos — the dream of all Cities of the Future for the past two centuries!

And what is a city without a famous landmark? The Triangle Towers monument project would consist of three tall towers at the southern entrance to downtown.

Yes, for decades a monument project has been high on the list of things Raleigh residents have desired from city leaders. They’d pay for it willingly. Well, they better.

Another plan is making a squirrel the City of Oaks’ mascot, with squirrel statues placed all over Raleigh.

Oh criminy. I should have know they’d bust out another mascot. Pretty soon Raleigh will have “Scotty, the Mascot-Making Mascot” to inspire new civic mascots.

One of the most popular ideas was a sports arena or stadium just south of downtown.

Because everything they said about the RBC Arena ten years ago was a damned dirty lie.
