So, we’ve buried our own children over their eyeballs in debt to foreign creditors. Now we sit in our comfortable homes as millions are burned to grow the national deficit. And, of course, we wear it as a crown of honor to barbecue some pork in our own backyards.

Take for instance a $1.5 million increase to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park’s $17.2 million budget. This is apparently not related to the recent $1.9 million increase to the Blue Ridge Parkway’s $19 million budget. Perhaps a monument is in order to celebrate this record increase in park funding.

Now, for those of you wanting accountability, rest assured. There is a program with a vibrant name attached: The Centennial Initiative. And fear not, it is synergistically integrated with a plan. The forward-looking mission is to spend an additional $100 million annually for the next ten years in the paradigm-shifting pursuit of “preparing the National Park Service for its 100th Anniversary.”

Simply diverse!
