About a week ago, Buncombe County raised fines for violation of the new stormwater ordinance from $5000 to $25,000/day. (Check out the monkey here.) Today, the City of Asheville introduced . . .

On-Call Service
for
Emergency Sediment and Erosion Violations.

Beginning December 1, citizens may now get 24/7 relief from:

  1. Mud or sediment from a development site in a roadway, yard or basement directly related to a weather event.
  2. Mud or sediment from a development site in a roadway, yard or basement when the sources of the water are not known.
  3. Failure of an erosion control system on a development site that has been witnessed by a citizen or passerby.

To date, the city has not indicated it had any intention of sharing the reward money with those who use the hotline. If they did, people might become concerned enough about emergency mud to dig holes in each other’s yards.
