Bill Russell won a second time. After provisional ballots were counted, Russell had 5579 votes to Bryan Freeborn’s 5505. Freeborn, appointed to serve his first term on council when Terry Bellamy gave up her seat to become mayor, called for a recount. After the recount, Russell had 5578 votes and Freeborn had 5510. Freeborn can still contest the recount.

Personally, I am looking forward to Russell serving on council. Many say they like the balance he will bring. I am looking forward more to seeing his cheery peace-maker skills in action. The current council’s sniping is an embarrassment to the city, and it makes me want to hide under my chair at least once a meeting. Maybe some council members think the drama is necessary to keep us ignorant masses engaged, kinda like the WWF.
