From Today’s StarNews.  This is a rather interesting letter to the editor about our dealmaker in chief.  Good questions, who’s going to do the follow up?

Gov. Mike Easley’s recent claims of saving the Southport Marina are lacking in substance.

Be
assured that only the outcry of the thousands of residents of this area
coupled with those of concerned boaters influenced the stoppage of the
sale of the state-owned 46-acre Southport Marina property, not the
conscience of the governor. ?

If Easley is such a benefactor,
then why the 20-year extensions to the original lease that will now max
out at 33 years? Why the unbelievably low lease (payment) of $160,000
annually for a 500-slip marina? ?

The Southport Marina lease
appears to be a backroom deal tied to the office of the governor, the
State Ports Authority, and Council of State members who rubber-stamped
this bad deal.

The governor may claim a home in Southport, but
the community would be well served to have his house moved out of
Southport so that his “helping hand” can do no more damage.
