Trying to clear up the confusion surrounding former WXII anchorman Tolly Carr’s intended guilty plea…..
The N&R reports Carr’s request to speak to students about the dangers of drinking and driving was indeed pre-arranged by attorney Locke Clifford:
Clifford broached the idea with fellow Greensboro attorney, Alan Duncan, who is chairman of the Guilford County Board of Education.
Duncan took the request to Guilford County Schools Superintendent Terry Grier, who wrote a letter July 16 to the Forsyth County Superior Court inviting Carr to speak to Guilford students.
“This is somebody we know. This is somebody we saw. This is somebody who was a role model for a lot of kids, and look at what happened,” Grier said Friday. “You’d certainly have to understand that the mistake he made is a very, very serious mistake.
Still, there was an element of surprise surrounding Grier’s letter, according to WSJS:
According to Clifford, someone in the school system leaked the letter to the media forcing him to hold a news conference on Friday announcing Carr’s intent to plead guilty sooner than intended.
Surely Clifford was aware that Grier had indeed submitted the letter to the court recommending Carr’s community service. But, as with anything involving GCS, you never know.
