N&R endorses Watt.

Something to think about:

Should the Democrats gain control of the House, Watt’s seniority on key committees will take on added importance. On the home front, he earns high marks for constituent services.

With that in mind, here are Watt’s views on, among other things, the federal deficit:

Reduce spending and increase taxes and you’ll reduce the deficit, he said. He would reinstate the estate tax and increase taxes on income over $200,000. Also, he wants to put “every spending program on the table and scrutinize it thoroughly.”

That seems to be a bit contradictory to me. If you put every spending program on the table and scrutinize them thoroughly, then you’ll find that a good many of them aren’t necessary, thus eliminating the need to raise taxes. Right?
