So the David Wray-James Hinson mess just keeps getting, well, messier. But the bottom line remains the same, according to Guarino:

Even if only 10% of what Bledsoe has reported about Hinson is true, monitoring him would have been justified.

Instead of following up Friday’s explosive events with a news story over the weekend, the N&R editorializes about the “slow start” in the search for a new police chief.

The N&R even discusses the possibility of giving the job to interim chief Tim Bellamy, an idea supported by City Councilwoman Yvonne Johnson:

There is talk about one shortcut, however: offering the job to Tim Bellamy, who’s been interim chief for the past 10 months already.

“I’ve heard folks say — I’ve heard council people say — he’s doing a good job, go ahead and hire him,” Councilwoman Johnson said.

That would please many in the department, said William L. Hill, attorney for the Greensboro Police Officers Association, who added it should be a “slam dunk” if Bellamy applies.

Let me ask a question: What would hiring Bellamy accomplish? He’s been with the GPD for 23 years. So does it not stand to reason that he knows at least a little bit of what Wray or Hinson- or both- were up to? If not, then he’s way out of the loop, and I’m not sure that’s what the police department needs right now.
