One would think that getting one’s name changed would be such a frequent occurence that the powers-that-be would make it a painless process. This is not the case. I have now been to the DMV twice and still have nothing to show for it.

The first time, I had not yet changed my name at the Social Security Office. (I could have been saved a trip had the wonderful people at the register of deeds’ office told me to go to SS first, then DMV.)

The second time, this morning, I was informed that, although I have been to Social Security, the computers do not yet match and I therefore have to wait until my actual social security card arrives, then return to DMV to get a new license. Apparently, it’s more important that I’m not pulling a fast one than for me to be driving legally.

As of today, my license has been expired for 25 days – not that there’s anything wrong with that.
