While I would love to take credit for this one, it was actually a blurb on Otis White’s column at Government.com.

This is an update on the situation in Portland and how property owners are fighting back against the ridiculous “Smart Growth” urban boundary laws.

What comes to mind when you think of Portland, Ore.? Nike running shoes? Nice city parks? How about Portland’s famous urban growth boundary, which draws a line around the region, with intense development on one side and farms on the other? Oops. Scratch that last one. Oregon voters dealt a major blow to the growth boundary in the November election by passing an initiative requiring that governments compensate landowners who bought land under one set of development rules only to have a more restrictive set of rules imposed later on.

You can read more about this here.

There is also a great update on the 19th century transit solutions that are starting to fall apart in New York, Chicago and Atlanta. Funny thing, with transit problems increasing almost daily nationally, Charlotte and Raleigh officials continue moving backward. . . er . . forward with budget overruns and no clear rationale.
