One of two grafs The Charlotte Observer had today on a rather interesting proposal:

The Mayor’s Task Force on Cultural Facilities will give the Charlotte City Council an update rather than a final report Tuesday, the day it originally was supposed to finish. The group was formed in June to examine a $190 million proposal for new and revamped cultural facilities. Much of its discussions have focused on potential sources of money, and Thursday’s meeting brought a couple of new suggestions: a surcharge on uptown parking fees and a surcharge on tickets for entertainment events at venues other than those run by the city. Those brought the committee’s list of possible sources to a dozen — even after it ruled out asking for increases in property or sales taxes.

Let me see if I got this straight. If I go somewhere to see a show I have to kick in a buck or two to support stuff I absolutely cannot stand? That sounds real arts friendly.

“Here, lets zap the shows that residents of Charlotte actually want to see in order to support the stuff we like. All in favor?”

Just what distant galaxy does the Mayor’s Task Force on Cultural Facilities call home and how long will it take for them to return? Utterly insane.
