National Journal is reporting the following:

Anyone who didn’t get enough of John Edwards Wednesday is in luck — the VP nominee will participate in a “conference call” tonight before John Kerry’s acceptance speech. Don’t expect much conferring, however — the candidate talks; callers just get to listen. Call 866.688.8057 at 7 p.m., then enter 9492932#.

I for one, heard enough. But still, I have to wonder about the cost effectiveness of doing something like this. I can understand doing a conference call for reporters to give them a glimpse — from Edwards, no less — on what Kerry will say. It takes the “spin room” effect to a new level. It is the pre-spin room. But why would a campaign spend precious resources — including Edwards’ time — on a cattle call? Ideas?
