According to the living wage study by the NC Justice and Community Development Center, the housekeepers and groundskeepers at UNC-CH are making a fairly decent living.

In their report, “Working Hard is Not Enough,” they claim that a single parent with one child needs $22,608 per year, while a family of four needs $33,636 per year. (Both figures are for urban areas). So, at $19,000 per year, if any of the workers at UNC are either married with one or two children, or single or married with no children, they are living well above the level of the ‘living wage.’

I guess they’re not as badly treated as we thought.
