DeVos at Fort Bragg today

According to Politico’s Morning Education,

Education Secretary Betsy DeVos visits the sprawling Army post Fort Bragg, N.C., at 10 a.m. today to read to students and meet with school officials at Kimberly Hampton Primary School. The Defense Department-funded school was named after Capt. Kimberly N. Hampton, a military pilot killed in Iraq in 2004.

Even as Department of Defense Education Activity students overall score among the top on the National Assessment of Educational Progress — which is considered the nation’s report card — when compared to states, Defense Department-run schools aren’t available to all of the more than one million children with a parent on active duty. Researchers from the Lexington Institute and the Collaborative for Student Success warned in a recent report that a shortage of high-quality educational options for military families negatively impacts educational achievement and can even reduce a military family’s satisfaction with a military career.

No major announcements are expected.
