The N.C. Department of Public Instruction recently published key enrollment (average daily membership) figures for the 2016-17 school year.  As of the second month of the school year, 92,226 students attended a public charter school in North Carolina.  District membership stood at 1,437,082 students.

How does this compare to the 2015-16 school year?  Last year, second month charter membership was 82,346 and district school membership was 1,441,722.  So, charter membership grew by 9,880 students or 12 percent.  District membership dropped by 4,640 students or 0.3 percent.

There will be fluctuations in average daily membership throughout the year, mostly due to transfers in and out of schools.
