A Tennessee congresswoman wants to be the one handing out “pink slips” to federal government workers under President-elect Trump by shrinking the bureaucracy, including by placing the Environmental Protection Agency inside the Department of Energy.
Rep. Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn., has been working with Trump’s transition team but declined to speculate on what role she might want inside the administration. She attributed that to her love of serving in the House and working to eliminate the jobs of federal workers.
“I’m not even going to go there with you because I like serving in the House because I want to be the one to go deliver pink slips and say ‘It’s time for us to innovate,'” Blackburn said on CNN Monday.
Blackburn said she thinks the EPA could be folded into the Energy Department and wants to shrink the size of agencies like the Department of Health and Human Services. If she were to serve in the administration, she’d want her role to be focused on fighting “waste, fraud and abuse.”
But, she’s not sure she’s ready to give up her spot in the Capitol to do that just yet.
“I also like being in representative government and I want to do everything I can do to reduce the size of agencies,” she said.
