Mike Antonucci of EIA just published the Official NEA State Affiliate Membership Numbers for 2015.  During the 2014-15 school year, the North Carolina Association of Educators (NCAE) had 23,480 active members and a total membership of 35,998.  The active membership includes teachers, professionals, and support staff.  The total membership adds retirees, students, substitute teachers, and non-instructional employees.  Antonucci writes,

Among NEA’s weak affiliates Arizona, Mississippi and South Carolina managed to stop the bleeding, but the numbers in Arkansas, Georgia, Indiana, Louisiana, North Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia continued to head south – so to speak – at an alarming rate. All told, 28 state affiliates lost active members in 2015.

Over the last five years, active NCAE membership dropped by 47.8 percent, while total membership fell by 38 percent.  Both were among the largest percentage decreases in membership within the National Education Association affiliate network.
