This morning’s Joint Legislative Oversight Committee Meeting on Health and Human Services touched on a variety of topics, some of which included regulations that stifle access to health care – especially in rural and underserved areas.

Certificate of Need (CON) laws was one of those talking points. My colleagues and I have written a lot about this. See here, here, and here.

Another policy issue that deserves attention are the barriers that prevent advanced nurse practitioners (APRNs) from practicing within their full scope of authority. Chris Conover, Research Scholar at Duke University, summarized how patients and North Carolina’s economy would benefit from a less stringent regulatory environment.
