IMG_0835One suspects that Matt Damon, the liberal star of the hit movie “The Martian,” would not be thrilled to read the following Fortune magazine blurb about the Andy Weir novel on which the film is based.

In a feature titled “The Books That Changed My Mind,” former Intel CEO Craig Barrett offers this assessment of Weir’s The Martian.

This book reinforced for me that individuals, not large organizations, drive progress. In business, entrepreneurs create transformative companies almost overnight, and in the social sector, high-performing charter schools run circles around the K-12 education system. Expect future advances to follow the same pattern.

The importance of entrepreneurs? The success of high-performing charter schools? Had Damon known that The Martian contained such powerful free-market themes, he might have decided to skip his cinematic space trip.
