The N.C. Supreme Court has reversed the state Court of Appeals in the Jason Young murder case. The high court’s opinion today throws out the Appeals Court’s order of a new trial. Now the case heads back to appellate judges for review of Young’s other grounds for appeal.

Young was convicted and sentenced to life in prison without parole in the 2006 first-degree murder of his wife, Michelle Fisher Young. That conviction followed Jason Young’s second trial on murder charges. The first trial had ended in a mistrial.

Had the high court affirmed the N.C. Court of Appeals, Young could have faced his third trial on the same charges.
