Bernie Sanders is said to be surging against Hillary Clinton, as many of the true-believer statists in the Democratic Party swoon for a candidate who sounds more deeply committed to social justice, equality, and other progressive buzzwords. Too bad that few people have pointed out the sheer foolishness of his anti-capitalist blather — in particular his notion that having lots of choices among consumer products is somehow to blame for hungry children.

One writer who has called him out is Sheldon Richman. Read his piece here.

Many politicians (including all who are vying for the Democratic nomination) know they can easily take advantage of the economic ignorance of a huge swath of the electorate. They appeal for votes from those people and then pursue policies that actually make them worse off — but again ignorance protects them against an electoral backlash. It’s despicable.
