Ask a political conservative to list his heroes, and you’ll likely hear the names Thomas Jefferson, William F. Buckley, and Ronald Reagan. You’re less likely to hear Nathaniel Macon, Josiah Bailey, or John W. Davis.

But those names might crop up on a few more lists of important American conservatives, now that Raleigh finance executive Garland Tucker has released his second book, Conservative Heroes. Tucker focuses on all six men named in the first paragraph, along with eight others dating back to the opening days of the American republic. He shared highlights from the book during a presentation for the John Locke Foundation’s Shaftesbury Society.

In the video clip below, Tucker identifies basic conservative concepts that influenced each of his heroes.
