You may recall Don Carrington’s report on the nearly nine year battle the Hurst family has had with the state of NC to hold on to land they inherited.   But the state of NC and even Attorney General Roy Cooper has fought the Hursts tooth and nail, even refusing to pay any compensation as the state tried to take the land they inherited.  Don tracked this property rights story here and here and here.

In a deal closed yesterday, the Hursts will be compensated $10M for their land and retain a portion of it to fulfill a life long dream of operating a children’s camp.
