Some advocates of Medicaid expansion in North Carolina have touted potential economic benefits from the increased money flowing into the state from the federal government.

But a new study from the national group State Budget Solutions says that claim fails the test of economic analysis. CEO and chief economist Scott Moody estimates a long-term negative impact on personal income growth of $6.4 billion, the equivalent of $1,638 lost per household or 120,395 lost jobs.
