Reason has published a subsidy tracker, essentially a search engine for economic development subsidies. So now when our legislators are saying, “well, everyone else is doing it” we can see exactly what the other states are doing. The Subsidy Tracker currently contains data on 265,000 subsidy awards from 551 programs in all 50 states and the District of Columbia.
North Carolina has given the most to Apple according to the subsidy tracker.
Reason also created an infographic showing every state and the company that received the most in that state. It is easy to see that everyone is participating in the economic incentive game, but who is winning? To me it looks like big business is getting tax breaks and blank checks while middle-class America is paying for it.
