• It’s polling time! The Democratic firm Public Policy Polling surveyed 823 registered voters, asking their views on Republican U.S. Sen. Richard Burr, Gov. Pat McCrory, and their possible 2016 Democratic rivals. Both incumbents outpoll their potential challengers, though neither has positive approval/disapproval ratings. McCrory delivers his second State of the State Address at 7 p.m. tonight.

• During last week’s confirmation hearing of Attorney General-designate (and Greensboro native) Loretta Lynch, freshman U.S. Sen. Thom Tillis used some of his question time to challenge the Justice Department’s lawsuit against North Carolina’s election reforms. Lynch conceded that at least some provisions requiring voters to present state-approved identifiers at the polls would pass constitutional muster.

• A bipartisan group of legislators, joined by policy advocates from across the political spectrum, called again for changes in the ways legislative and congressional districts are drawn. John Locke Foundation Chairman John Hood was one of the speakers, and you can watch the entire press conference here.

• Rep. Renee Ellmers, R-2nd District, responded to pro-life critics of her objections to a measure outlawing abortions after the 20th week of pregnancy, leading to another round of attacks from pro-lifers.
