N.C. lawmakers will pursue two versions of election redistricting reform this year. Sponsors of both proposals gathered for a morning news briefing. They detailed plans to take the process of drawing state legislative and congressional district maps out of the hands of legislators who are affected most directly by those maps.

While the two plans differ in several details, the key difference is that one plan would not take effect until 2028, leaving current law in place for the next scheduled redistricting process in 2021.
