It’s official. Chiquita is moving it’s headquarters from Charlotte. This despite the $23 million package from the state that enticed them here just four years ago. Clearly that didn’t work.
And not only did the incentives fail, but they also cost taxpayers money. Some of that $23 million has already been paid out, and only a fraction will be returned by Chiquita. We’re not out $23 million, but we’re nowhere close to breaking even.
Maybe governments really aren’t very good at picking winners and losers after all.
