• N.C. Democratic Party Chairman Randy Voller (at right) says Democrats need to discuss reforms in the way the state party is run, so in February he will not seek another term. Voller, former mayor of Pittsboro, says he does not want to be a distraction. Former state Rep. Patsy Keever, D-Buncombe, has announced that she wants the chairman’s job.

• State Senate District 15 Republican candidate Johnny Mac Alexander holds a lead of 701 votes over Democrat Tom Bradshaw following the canvass of ballots by the Wake County Board of Elections. That’s less than a 1-percent margin, and close enough for Bradshaw to demand a recount — and the former Raleigh mayor and N.C. Department of Transportation chief may do so.

• Fayetteville attorney and Marine reservist Tim Dunn, a Democrat, says he will run for state attorney general in 2016 if incumbent Roy Cooper decides to challenge Republican Gov. Pat McCrory, as is expected.
