Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools (CMS) Superintendent Heath Morrison unexpectedly resigned yesterday. Morrison said that he is leaving CMS to care for his ailing mother who lives in Williamsburg, VA.  I wish him and his family the best.

I noticed that the Portsmouth (VA) Public Schools is conducting a superintendent search.  Williamsburg and Portsmouth are 50 miles apart, so working in Portsmouth would allow Morrison to be relatively close to his mother.

So my prediction is that Morrison’s next stop will be beautiful Portsmouth, VA.

Update: Ok, I should not have given Morrison the benefit of a doubt.  The Charlotte Observer is reporting that Morrison resigned due to allegations of misconduct.  “Several sources told the Observer that the allegations included belittling comments Morrison made to staff members. One current employee, who asked not to be named for fear of job repercussions, said Morrison got angry with his staff on a daily basis, often over minor incidents. The employee said Morrison created a “culture of fear,” which made people reluctant to tell board members how they were treated.”
