Rick Henderson’s column gets at one of the most troubling aspects of politics, namely the way elected officials can use their connections to line their pockets. Democrats and Republicans both do it. Democrats like Kay Hagan bleat away about how they’re so much on the side of “the little guy” and then vote for all kinds of government meddling that wastes the taxes paid by those “little guys” and makes their lives harder (Obamacare being the lead example right now). And Republicans usually claim to be the party of limited government and free enterprise, but they often support the same kinds of laws and programs that breed cronyism.

Want cleaner campaigns? The only disinfectant that will work is getting the government out of doing things it should not do, starting with the financing of business.
