What exactly are women’s issues and who should be in charge of them?

During the latest General Assembly session women chaired important committees in the House including Appropriations, Banking, Education, Environment, Ethics, Finance, and Judiciary C. Women were leaders as vice chairmen on General Government, Natural and Economic Resources, Commerce and Job Development, Health and Human Services, Insurance, Public Utilities and Energy, Regulatory and State Personnel committees.

Of the 36 committees in the North Carolina House of Representatives for the 2013-14 session, women (from both parties) chaired 10 and served as vice chairmen of 19. While women made up 23% of the 2013-14 state House, 27% of the committees were chaired by women and 52% of the committees were led by women vice-chairmen.

Women’s issues are everybody’s issues and women are perfectly capable of leading and finding solutions, just like everybody else.
