An analysis by GOP-leaning American Insights shows the U.S. Senate race in North Carolina at a dead heat, with incumbent Democratic Sen. Kay Hagan garnering 42 percent of those polled and challenger GOP state House Speaker Thom Tillis with 42 percent.
Pearce Godwin, Insights director, noted that the organization’s Trends Chart had Hagan up by 6 points on July 20. But that margin has evaporated. Says AI:
The gap has closed over the last two weeks as a result of polls from the New York Times (Tillis +1), Civitas (Hagan +2) and Rasmussen (Tillis +5). HuffPost Pollster gives Hagan a 0.9 percent lead, while the Real Clear Politics average stands at Tillis +1.3.
