High Point Enterprise reports:

U.S. Rep. Howard Coble, R-6th, broke with his long-standing personal tradition this morning and endorsed Phil Berger Jr. in the GOP primary runoff to succeed him in Congress.

….“It’s clear to me that Phil Berger is the right conservative for the job. He has the experience, knowledge and determination to hit the ground running in Washington,” Coble said in a statement provided to the Enterprise by the Berger campaign. “He’s a solid, proven conservative with the kind of values and energy we need to keep North Carolina on the right track.”

A departure for Coble, who “rarely has endorsed candidates within Republican primaries across a range of races.”
