How bad has corruption been in North Carolina? At least we’re not Chicago.
Although we’ve had our share of corruption. We rank 19th in most public officials incarcerated by state 1998-2007. We’re 18th, with a grade of 71 or a C- out of fifty states’ measurements of transparency, accountability and anti-corruption mechanisms in a report updated Jan 2013. From 2001-2010 there were 184 federal public corruption convictions in North Carolina and 461 between 1976-2010, according to an April 2012 UIC report. And just this week - Voter fraud. Pay to play and play and play. IRS fraud.
Thanks to a new leadership that’s cleaning things up and moving the state in the right direction.
