• A coalition of D.C. environmental heavyweights plans to spend $5 million supporting the re-election efforts of N.C. Sen. Kay Hagan and two other embattled Democrats. The ad takes a not-so-subtle swipe at the Koch brothers.

• Sen. Mike Lee, R-Utah, will appear Friday at two North Carolina fundraisers for GOP U.S. Senate candidate Greg Brannon.

• It’s dueling ads in the 3rd Congressional District, as GOP challenger Taylor Griffin gets support from a Super PAC underwritten by Chicago Cubs part-owner Joe Ricketts and Las Vegas casino mogul Sheldon Adelson (owner of The Venetian and The Palazzo, among other properties). Incumbent Rep. Walter Jones has responded with a radio ad of his own narrated by Dot Helms, the widow of Sen. Jesse Helms.

• The Charlotte Observer profiles George Battle III, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools general counsel who’s one of seven Democrats seeking the nomination for the 12th Congressional District.
