Bad news for those who would like to see a lower federal tax burden

fortunewydenA chart in the latest Fortune magazine compares the ideological outlook of new Senate Finance Committee chairman Ron Wyden to the views espoused by the five previous chairmen. As Fortune reports in the blurb accompanying the chart, “By his voting record, as measured by Americans for Democratic Action and noted by CQ Roll Call, the three-termer is the most liberal man in modern history to wield the committee’s gavel.”

Fortune also notes of Wyden’s approach to the tax code that he “wants to make it more progressive — in part by treating investment income more like ordinary income.”

It’s too bad that Wyden refuses to emulate some well-regarded figures from his party’s past.
