• Rockingham County District Attorney Phil Berger Jr., a Republican seeking the nomination for the 6th Congressional District, has his first ad on the air.

• Depending on the ranking methodology or the spin, either U.S. Sen. Kay Hagan is an inflexible partisan for siding with President Obama 96 percent of the time, or she’s the most moderate member of the upper chamber. Even so, her Republican opponents say only one vote really matters: the one she cast for Obamacare.

• 2nd Congressional District hopeful Clay Aiken won the endorsement of another Democrat seeking a congressional seat: state Rep. Marcus Brandon of Guilford County, who’s after the 12th District nomination.

• Aiken may attract plenty of national attention, but longtime D.C.-based political analyst Stu Rothenberg’s Political Report continues to rate the 2nd District “safe Republican,” due to recent voting patterns and the difficulties even veteran Democratic lawmakers face in red-leaning districts.
