The Federal Reserve Act was signed into law 100 years ago. In this column, Sheldon Richman shows that it has been a terrible failure at protecting the value of the dollar and at preventing economic boom and bust cycles. We’d be much better off if it had never come into existence and with its newly arrogated power to allocate capital, getting rid of it is a very high priority.
