In an unsigned opinion in the case of Wind v. City of Gastonia, the N.C. Supreme Court affirmed today an opinion from the N.C. Court of Appeals that Gastonia city government is required to allow a city employee access to records of complaints filed against him.

Among other opinions released today, a 3-3 split on the state’s highest court, with one justice not participating, allows an Appeals Court decision to stand in Samost v. Duke. Appellate judges ruled against a Duke student who sued the university for breach of contract while facing a campus disciplinary process related to noise complaints at his off-campus housing.
