On November 14th, President Obama announced that people who liked their individual health insurance plans could keep them for just one more year.  Originally, roughly 473,000 North Carolinians received cancelation notices in the mail because their existing plans did not comply with Obamacare’s minimum health insurance requirements.

Before Thanksgiving, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina received approval from the state Department of Insurance to renew “substandard” individual health insurance policies. 230,000 of BCBS North Carolina’s customers will now have the choice to keep their plans until 2015, but will face rate increases ranging between 16-24%.
