With the discussions of tax reform, I thought it was fitting to share this map showing the state and local property tax collections per capita.  North Carolina turned over the property tax collection to the local municipalities in the 1930s during the tax reform/change that last occurred in our state.  Some states, like Florida, Texas, and Wyoming collect property tax at the state level and it serves as their main source of income where lower property taxed states tend to have higher personal income taxes.  Unfortunately, everything is expensive in New York – so we can’t use that as a guideline very often.
