In this Future of Freedom essay, Sheldon Richman argues that the wailing and rending of garments over the possibility of the sequester is much ado about almost nothing. The amounts of money we’re talking about are tiny in the context of the government’s spending. We ought to be talking about abolishing whole departments, not just trimming away a bit from them. Alas, only a very few Republicans and no Democrats want to chop away needless, unconstitutional, often counter-productive federal spending to relieve the burden on taxpayers and release resources for productive use.
