The left-wing audience of the News and Observer must love their new political cartoon, “Jones and Blount.”  According to the introduction of the cartoon, it “will present the escapades of lawmakers and state officials as seen through the eyes of two lobbyists, Jones and Blount, a dog and a cat.”

My “favorite” part is when, inexplicably, Art Pope is standing next to a water fountain, offering to splash Jones and Blount “with some of this.”  Because – you know – his last name is Pope and the Pope, the Bishop of Rome and head of the Roman Catholic Church, “splashes” people with water during one of the most important sacraments of the Catholic Church (and Christianity generally), baptism.  HA HA HA!  Get it?  He’s “baptizing” Jones and Blount!
