Deciding on the best course-drop policy

Should each UNC-system school decide for itself how to handle course drops, or should that decision be made centrally by the UNC General Administration? That’s a subject currently under debate and in today’s Pope Center piece, Duke Cheston takes a look at the controversy.

  1. What about neither? Why not let each university withing the system establish their own drop/add dates? Course retention is a big deal for a university, but a student at ABC University in 123 Major and a student at XYZ University in 456 Major will have different reasons for dropping/adding a course. A student’s class standing will also affect such a decision. Take it from one…
