I thought the ban on large sodas was bad, but this is a whole new level.  In the wake of Hurricane Sandy, with the city’s resources stretched, Mayor Bloomberg has now banned donations of food to homeless shelters.  Why?  Because they city is too busy with disaster recovery to properly assess salt, fat, and fiber levels in the donated food, and therefore can’t ensure that it meets nutritional standards.  Really?!  Could it be any more obvious that government regulations, even with the best of intentions, are going to end up harming the poorest and most vulnerable?
