• N.C. House Speaker tells a “Rock the Red” video interviewer why he supports Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan.

• Democratic gubernatorial nominee Lt. Gov. Walter Dalton unveils his economic and jobs policy in a Raleigh pub.

• Coincidentally, Republican gubernatorial candidate Pat McCrory released an ad on the same day as Dalton’s latest. The ad touts North Carolina’s natural resources and says the state needs to “get back to being great again.”

• Republican gubernatorial nominee Pat McCrory and his Democratic counterpart Lt. Gov. Walter Dalton will appear at the same event in Wilmington on Oct. 3, the Greater Wilmington Business Journal Power Breakfast event at the Wilmington Convention Center.

• The State Employees Association of North Carolina has honored lawmakers who voted against their parties during the budget override.The awards were announced at SEANC’s annual convention in Greensboro last weekend.

• The National Republican Congressional Committee in a new ad is accusing Democratic U.S. Rep. Mike McIntyre of “spending billions of taxpayer dollars to create jobs in foreign countries like China.” McIntyre is running against Republican David Rouzer.

• Republican State Sen. Richard Stevens announced his retirement Monday and immediately joined one of Raleigh’s high-powered lobbying law firms.
