Sunshine is the best disinfectant. Kudos go to Rowan County for understanding that transparency is important and keeping the public informed is a duty not a favor.
Dissatisfied with their initial grade from JLF’s NCTransparency project, they got to work and with minimal cost and a commitment to open government, they made changes that earned an A+ rating.
Taking things even a step further, plans are afoot to post all county commission meetings agendas on line prior to the meetings so citizens have access to the same information as the commissioners.
Congratulations to Rowan County for attaining the highest grade of all North Carolina’s governmental entities! And a challenge to the rest to let the sun shine in!
